Water-Proofing the Cellar & Basement
We have explained already the treatment for leakage has to be done from positive side, from where the water enters the building, to be effective.
Hence for new buildings, it is advisable to treat the floor before laying the final concrete and wall from outside, as and when each lift is cast or constructed before filling the earth or covering. The treatment follows for sides as that of side walls treatment and for floor as that of roof treatment.
TREATMENT FOR THE BUILDING ALREADY BUILT:
However for buildings under usage, with cellar leakage problems, it would be felt difficult to treat from outside as there has not been any approach or accessibility from outside.
As we have not suggested grouting in any if our treatment, to treat the wall from outside, it is suggested to use 15-20 mm conduit PVC pipes to reach defect on the wall, & pour water to wet the surface and pour Aquatyte solution from a conduit pipe and funnel at every intervals 2-3 feet all along the walls. It is presumed that the solution will travel along the wall, there by fixing all the cracks, voids, and defects on the outer wall (on the entry side).
To treat the floor, it is suggested not to drill any holes as the ground water pressure could be more.
Even though each and every basement leakage problems differs from case to case, depending on the ground water level or otherwise, it has to be tackled trickily without breaking it.
